New visual image guide for heated corn assessment

The Canadian Grain Commission has developed a visual image guide for heated corn (Version 2026-04 14.1.1) to be used in the visual assessment and determination of heated kernels of corn.

The guide was presented to the Barley and Other Cereal Grains Advisory Committee and supported by both the Western Standards Committee and Eastern Standards Committee at the 2026 spring meetings.

The visual image guide for heated corn is not changing how heated kernels are currently assessed. The guide is intended to aid inspectors and industry by increasing consistency in the way heated corn kernels are evaluated.

The effective date is April 23, 2026 for Canada Eastern and Canada Western grades.

To maintain the integrity of the visual image guide for heated corn, we recommend they not be exposed to extended periods of light (sunlight or room lighting). While they are not being used, all Canadian Grain Commission standards and guides should be kept in an envelope or drawer until they are needed.
