Eastern Grain Standards Committee recommendations from June 2, 2005

Wheat, Hard White Spring

At its meeting on June 2, 2005, the Eastern Standards Committee (ESC) recommended establishing a class for Hard White Spring wheat in eastern Canada.

A new moisture table will be introduced on Aug. 1, 2005 for testing the new hard white spring class of wheat in western Canada.

Soybean moisture tables

Changes to the moisture tables were recommended for soybeans effective on July 1, 2005. Tables #6 (250 grams) and #7 (200 grams) will be replaced with Table #8 (225 grams). This change is based on 350 samples received in 2003 and 2004. Soybeans which previously tested under 13 percent will now read approximately one-tenth of a percent lower and samples between 13 and 14 percent will read the same as the previous tables. Samples previously testing over 14 percent will read approximately two-tenths to three-tenths of a percent higher.

Feed durum test weight

The ESC proposed that a minimum primary test weight specification of 65 kilograms/hectolitre be implemented for Wheat, No. 5 Canada Eastern Feed Durum. The change would be effective on July 1, 2005.
