Eastern Grain Standards Committee recommendations from November 9, 2004

At its meeting on November 9, 2004, the Eastern Standards Committee (ESC) recommended the following grading changes to come into effect on July 1, 2004. All changes are subject to the regulatory amendment process. Several provisions of the Canada Grain Act authorize the Canadian Grain Commission to make regulations. Regulations are considered as general applications and are in effect from their issue date until repealed or amended.

Canada Eastern Barley and Oats

The method for determining the amount of stones in samples will change from counting the number of kernel-sized stones to calculating the percentage of stones by weight effective July 1, 2004. This mirrors the practice followed in grading Canada Western Barley and Oats.

Canada Eastern White Winter Wheat

A mildew guide for No. 2 Canada Eastern White Winter wheat was recommended for use effective July 1, 2004.

Grading studies and projects

The ESC requested that the Canadian Grain Commission continue studying the relationship between fusarium-damaged kernels and deoxynivalenol (DON).

Standard sample

The following standard sample was recommended to take effect on July 1, 2004.

  • Soybean, No.1 Canada Yellow

It also recommended a visual guide for colour in Pea beans.
